The real estate community had been anxiously awaiting the new year, in hopes that the Federal Aviation Administration would approve the general use of commercial drones for real estate. However, the initial end of 2014 deadline was extended out by two more years to 2017. With this extension it prohibits drones to be used in the real estate business until a final decision is made by the FAA. This 2 year extension comes during a time when aerial shots are in high demand. The use of drones provides a high tech way to capture spectacular shots to make your property stand out among the competition.
In the meantime, the National Association of Realtors is advising its members to avoid the use of drones for commercial real estate. If members do not abide by the warnings, the FAA has the authority to hand out significant fines for disregarding its current ban.
